Like his debut LP, 2014s Built on Glass, Murphy wrote and produced Hotel Surrender solely on his own, finishing most of the songs before COVID 19 hit in March 2020. Just after the pandemic caused a worldwide shutdown, Murphy lost his father, and suddenly the new feel
