It was built in 1756 to serve as the College of New Jersey. The building was ravaged by troops during the American Revolution, but Princeton's campus became a battleground. In 1783, Nassau Hall served as the nation's capitol, housed the Continental Congress from June to November, and was where news was received of the peace treaty with Great Britain.
