Gilded Teak Burmese Sitting Buddha from Mandalay - 19th Century Rugs and HinokiThis sitting Burmese Buddha is a lovely example of the Mandalay style. This sitting Mandalay Buddha is made in the traditional way from carved teak wood which is then red lacquered and gilded. This Buddha dates to the middle of the Mandalay period, circa 1890. As is traditional of this style, Buddha here has beautiful detailing with painted glass eyes and robes inlaid with precious stones and coloured glass. He sits in vajrasana, with his right hand
