Choba dansu were used by merchants in shops for storing ledgers, money, and seals. This style of tansu is from the Gifu region of Japan. The slatted horizontal sides and sliding doors are traditional to the Gifu region. This piece has two sliding doors that open to reveal large compartments, six drawers of various sizes, and two small drawers for valuables
