Indian Nandi Bull Tikka Box From South India - 19th Century Chest of Drawers 64 x 31 x 51An excellent example of an old tikka (kumkum) box with a carved teak Nandi bull cover from South India. The Nandi Bull is a symbol of Lord Shiva. Cows are still revered and continue to wander the streets in India. These carved teak wood tika boxes were used for storing the red powder used for marking the forehead of Hindus known as a tika mark or bindi. This piece dates to the 19th century and is over 100 years old and like many would have had wheels.
