Original pieces were not usually decorated on the sides. This cabinet is over 200 years old and dates from the early 19th century. The lacquer has worn in places and our restorers have halted the aging process. It has also retained its original brass. The best quality lacquer cabinets were made from elm as this one is. Lacquer is a resin made from the sap of the Rhus verniciflua
