Instituted September 19, 1849. Type I (1849 1867). In bronze gilt, a cross pattee with pebbled arms, the obverse features a superimposed silver doubleheaded eagle, the reverse features a mother of pearl cross, measures 33. 8 mm (w) x 37. 3 mm (h inclusive of integral ring), worn on original triangular ribbon, light wear, in extremely fine condition. Footnote: Type I decorations are denoted by a double headed eagle
